Take the Lead in Care and Own Every Shift
Odyssey Victoria is looking for a full-time Residential Withdrawal Nurse (RN) based in Bairnsdale, VIC.
Reporting to the Program Manager, this role offers the opportunity to apply your AOD and withdrawal expertise in a setting where your clinical judgement, decision-making, and confidence shape outcomes every day.
You will play a key role in supporting residents through withdrawal and recovery, working both collaboratively and independently across a 24-hour residential program. Your ability to assess, respond, and lead care will be highly valued, particularly during evening and overnight shifts where your experience guides clinical decisions.
More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Managing and monitoring residents undergoing withdrawal from alcohol and other drugs
- Delivering comprehensive nursing assessments and evidence-based clinical care
- Administering medications, conducting observations, and supporting withdrawal protocols
- Responding to physical and mental health presentations, including co-occurring conditions
- Collaborating with GPs, hospitals, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated care
- Supporting admissions, treatment planning, and discharge processes
- Facilitating psychoeducation, health education, and harm reduction initiatives
- Building strong therapeutic relationships with residents during a key stage of recovery
- Supporting and guiding Enrolled Nurses within the scope of practice
- Maintaining accurate clinical documentation and compliance standards
- Ensuring medical supplies and clinical environments are maintained to a high standard
- Working across a roster including night shifts, with confidence to manage care independently

Where Your Experience Meets Impact
To qualify, you will need current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse, along with at least 2 to 3 years of hands-on experience across withdrawal, AOD, or mental health environments. You will also bring the confidence to apply your clinical skills independently in a residential setting.
Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:
- Strong clinical assessment, decision-making, and therapeutic communication skills
- Confidence working independently across a variety of shifts
- Ability to build trust and rapport with residents and colleagues
- Experience supporting or mentoring other nursing staff
- Familiarity with residential or community-based care settings
- Willingness to complete AOD competencies within 12 months if required
